Since October 1, 2021, the United Arab Emirates have been hosting the Universal Exhibition, Expo 2020 Dubai, delayed by a year due to the pandemic.

Astonishing figures

The resounding success of Expo 2020 is illustrated by the almost 9 million visits recorded in 3 months, from October 1 to December 31, 2021. Approximately 30% of visitors came from outside the UAE, including India, Germany, France, the UK, the USA, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

An impressive list of events throughout the festive season was undoubtedly one of the main attractions drawing foreign visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai.

Increased international visibility

During these first three months, Expo welcomed 8,902 government leaders, including ministers, presidents, prime ministers and heads of state. These personalities were present at numerous official events, highlighting a nation’s culture and achievements through their national pavilion.

Almost half of all visits to date have been generated by Expo Season Passes, with the number of repeat visits to Expo in these first three months reaching 3.5 million. Indeed, visitors have had to make several visits to the site during the same stay, because of the multiple experiences present in this exhibition that require more than one visit.

December 2021 highlights included, in addition to breathtaking fireworks displays and electrifying New Year’s Eve shows, world-renowned DJs such as Armin van Buuren and Dmitri Vegas. The celebrations capped an exceptional month of festivities that began with the UAE’s Golden Jubilee, celebrated with an extraordinary musical performance by American Alicia Keys and a concert by A.R. Rahman after a break of almost two years for the latter.

A promising future!

For the second half of Expo 2020, the list of events will continue with sports, music and cultural performances. A visit from British boxing star Anthony Joshua is scheduled for January 5. To find out about all the Expo events, please consult the calendar on their website.

Safety first and foremost

As the most important global gathering to be held since the start of the pandemic, the security measures taken at Expo 2020 against Covid-19 have been – from the outset – very strict in order to avoid the postponement of events. To protect all visitors, as well as those working on site, masks must be worn indoors and outdoors. Structures with PCR tests have been installed on site for workers and artists.

All Expo 2020 staff, volunteers, contractors and service providers, as well as international participants, must be vaccinated, while visitors aged 18 and over must also present proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test carried out during the 72 hours prior to their visit.
